Covering A Wall Of Windows

LET THE SUN SHINE IN

Did you know the sun shines approximately 237 days a year in Florida? People travel from all over the world to visit the Sunshine State because they want to see the sun! Exposure to sunlight increases the brain’s release of the hormone serotonin which helps boost moods. So for those who live in states where the sun doesn't shine quite as much as we would like, a visit to the south can help. But more often than not, when in Florida, especially during the summer months, the sun brings glaring light and excessive heat.

DOWN SOUTH

The Florida hotel where we recently stayed was designed in a way that a.) allowed guests to enjoy the gorgeous sun, but b.) covered the windows with sheer curtains to keep the glare and heat at bay. One of the areas of the hotel where we really noticed this solution was in the common spaces; the elevator areas on each floor. One particular set of elevators was located on the west side of the building and as the sun set each night, the light was pretty intense. The hotel had a wall of floor to ceiling windows in this area because they wanted their guests to enjoy the gorgeous view, but what they did was cover the wall of windows with sheer curtains. These curtains allowed guests to still enjoy the view without shielding their eyes, but also helped to keep the heat from the afternoon sun out of the area.

THE SOLUTION

This hotel used ceiling mount curtain tracks for these areas as well as wands that could easily open and close the curtains on days when it is overcast and in the evenings. It's a great solution that allows the perfect amount of natural light into the hotel. Well done, hotel interior designers!

Make A Lasting Impression With Hotel Curtain Tracks

BE THE BEST

Hotels have a lot of competition so attracting guests is a priority. And as a guest, there’s always that slight bit of excitement as you open your hotel room door. Will the room be large? Clean? Updated? Will there be a mini fridge? Large windows? That impression can be dismal if any of the above aren’t met and that includes what the window treatments look like.

ACROSS THE COUNTRY

With every visit to a hotel, look to the windows. You may be surprised how the window treatments and tracks are often the forgotten part of the room. But when a guest enters the room, the eyes scan the space and then look across the room which is most often where the windows are located. The curtains and how they hang can bring delight or disappointment.

LOOK UP

If you make any of the design decisions for a hotel or you simply want to create a polished look for your windows like most hotels do, you want to check out our selection of hotel curtain tracks. The best tracks to create this finished look are curtain tracks like the 84003 or 84004 ball bearing carrier tracks, along with the master carriers and wands. The 84003 track is a ceiling or wall mount track and available in white, silver, or black. The 84004 track is a ceiling mount aluminum track available in white or silver that accommodates smooth rolling ball bearing carriers. These high-quality tracks can withstand continued use and allow curtains to overlap when closed to block light and increase privacy.

Curtains That Keep The Light Out

KEEP THE LIGHT OUT

Eclipse Curtains have many features including blocking out 98% of light, absorbing sound, conserving energy and they are color rich on both sides of each panel. In a downtown Boston hotel, we saw some great looking eclipse curtains but the hotel was located very close to a neighboring hotel. If you wanted any natural light in your room during the day, you had to leave the curtains open which meant you might end up staring at a neighbor in the hotel next door. This hotel did it right though - they came up with a solution that allowed for eclipse curtains (block light, absorb sound and look great) plus they added a thin shade to the window.

A THIN SHADE

During the day, the shade could be pulled down allowing in light but also provide just enough shade so you didn’t have to check out your next door neighbors. Besides providing privacy, a thin shade can also be used to keep a room cool when the hot afternoon sun streams in. But if you love the look and functionality eclipse curtains provide, you can do both. We have a wide selection of eclipse available to complete the look of your room. Our curtains are machine washable and 100% flame retardant. These extremely durable curtains are available in a variety of heights and widths and you can choose from 28 different colors.

CHOICES

When it comes to your windows, you don’t have to be committed to just one look - you can do both! Contact us an we can help you with your project!

Unusual Angles No Match For This Flexible Curtain Track

UNUSUAL ANGLES AND CORNERS

If you have ever tried to decorate or refurbish an older home, you know that a perfectly square angle is rare at best. Houses settle and time can make corners and windows slightly more or less than 90 degree angles. Other homes might have unusual windows with intentionally different angles. All of these give homes great character, but when it comes time for window treatments, designers and homeowners are puzzled.

Bob Vila probably has lots of great DIY tricks to help with renovating odd angles, but Curtain-Tracks has an even easier solution: our flexible 6100 curtain track. Homeowners can be happy that there are simple ways to hang curtains on each window in their home. Whether it is Grandma’s old house, a new house that has settled, or even in a hotel, our flexible curtain track will give you a custom look without the custom price.

MEET THE FLEXIBLE TRACK

Curtain-Tracks Reader, Kendra, sent us this photo of her recent hotel stay. Her room was wonderfully quaint and had a boutique style. The windows immediately grabbed her attention because they were an unusual shape. One of the windows was tucked into a corner of the room that served the purpose as a reading nook. Rather than leave the unique style of this space bare, the hotel designer used a flexible curtain track to add even more excitement to the already interesting part of the room. It allowed them to be creative and functional at the same time!

SO MUCH EASIER AND EFFECTIVE

In this particular space, if the designer would have tried to use two traditional straight tracks, they would have had quite the headache getting them to line up perfectly in the corner, and the hotel guests would have had an annoying gap of light between the two separate curtains. Instead, the designer was able to simplify the solution with the 45 degree corner. They used the 6100 track to make one smooth track with no gaps and one large curtain. That means no gaps nor annoying light coming through, and no struggle during installation.

NO STRENGTH NEEDED

Because our flexible curtain track can be bent by hand, the only measurement you need to order is the length. Once the track arrives at the doorstep, two hands are the only tools needed to get the right angle. Then, only a screw driver is needed for installation of the mounting bracket. Easy! Custom! Affordable! A pretty great collection of adjectives, if we do say so ourselves!

Hotel First Impressions With Curtain-Tracks

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

How many of you view online photos to help determine which hotel room you’ll book? It’s human nature to want to see as much as you can before you spend hard earned money on an experience. Have you ever noticed that many of the online hotel pictures include the lobby? Go ahead, do a quick Google search. We’ll be right here when you get back.

So, why do the hotels share these types of lobby pictures wih us? It’s not like we will be spending very much time in the lobby after check-in. But, it does serve as our first impression. And in the service industry, like hotels, first impressions matter. Simple and updated decor are must-haves in a hotel lobby to impress guests who choose their hotel, and more importantly, envourage a return visit to the hotel.

THINK OUTSIDE THE WINDOW

One simple strategy for adding an element of design and decor to a hotel lobby is by adding curtains. We really need to break away from the notion that drapes are only for windows, because our products can be used for so much more! Once you break out of that window box, the possibilities just keep coming. Maybe you want to put a backdrop behind the check-in desk or around the concierge desk? What about a subtle division between two areas in the lobby or two meeting rooms? Fabric as decoration has been used for years but continues to be a great and often overlooked option.

ADDING DEPTH

If you’ve read our previous blog posts, you’ve heard us mention how great curtains can be for adding depth to a space. There is something about layering curtains against a wall but behind furniture that gives a space a sophisticated, finished look. It creates interest for the eye, and makes an overall appealing first impression for hotels.

To create depth with curtains, first you’ll need a reliable track like our 42124 ceiling mount track. We think a ceiling mounted track makes a lot of sense when using curtains in non-window situations because it gives you the flexibility of hanging them away from a wall. Screw the track into a stud in the ceiling, and the track will be able to handle a fair amount of weight from very luxurious curtains. We really love the 42124 ceiling mounted track because it doesn’t require any mounting hardware; the screws are put in directly through the track.

TIMES TWO

Once you have the length of track for the space, you’ll want to do some math. You’ll need to measure the space you want to cover and multiply by 2 or 3 to determine how much fabric you want for your curtains. The higher the number you multiply by, the fuller the curtains. We like to believe the fuller, the better when it comes to creating a high-end look. We really like our shadow cube curtains for a contemporary, sleek look. This is especially important for hotel lobbies who often try to create a high end feel.
