Hotel First Impressions With Curtain-Tracks
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
How many of you view online photos to help determine which hotel room you’ll book? It’s human nature to want to see as much as you can before you spend hard earned money on an experience. Have you ever noticed that many of the online hotel pictures include the lobby? Go ahead, do a quick Google search. We’ll be right here when you get back.
So, why do the hotels share these types of lobby pictures wih us? It’s not like we will be spending very much time in the lobby after check-in. But, it does serve as our first impression. And in the service industry, like hotels, first impressions matter. Simple and updated decor are must-haves in a hotel lobby to impress guests who choose their hotel, and more importantly, envourage a return visit to the hotel.
THINK OUTSIDE THE WINDOW
One simple strategy for adding an element of design and decor to a hotel lobby is by adding curtains. We really need to break away from the notion that drapes are only for windows, because our products can be used for so much more! Once you break out of that window box, the possibilities just keep coming. Maybe you want to put a backdrop behind the check-in desk or around the concierge desk? What about a subtle division between two areas in the lobby or two meeting rooms? Fabric as decoration has been used for years but continues to be a great and often overlooked option.
ADDING DEPTH
If you’ve read our previous blog posts, you’ve heard us mention how great curtains can be for adding depth to a space. There is something about layering curtains against a wall but behind furniture that gives a space a sophisticated, finished look. It creates interest for the eye, and makes an overall appealing first impression for hotels.
To create depth with curtains, first you’ll need a reliable track like our 42124 ceiling mount track. We think a ceiling mounted track makes a lot of sense when using curtains in non-window situations because it gives you the flexibility of hanging them away from a wall. Screw the track into a stud in the ceiling, and the track will be able to handle a fair amount of weight from very luxurious curtains. We really love the 42124 ceiling mounted track because it doesn’t require any mounting hardware; the screws are put in directly through the track.
TIMES TWO
Once you have the length of track for the space, you’ll want to do some math. You’ll need to measure the space you want to cover and multiply by 2 or 3 to determine how much fabric you want for your curtains. The higher the number you multiply by, the fuller the curtains. We like to believe the fuller, the better when it comes to creating a high-end look. We really like our shadow cube curtains for a contemporary, sleek look. This is especially important for hotel lobbies who often try to create a high end feel.
