IN THE SOUTH
A Curtain-Tracks friend recently visited the west coast of Florida. On their visit, they noticed a beautiful home that had three levels of porches. Unfortunately, these porches all faced west which meant they received the brunt of the hot afternoon sun. Luckily the home owners were creative and added curtain tracks and curtains that are not only functional but look great, too!
We have had the opportunity to work with customers all across the country on creating outdoor spaces. We suggest a few different tracks for outdoor use including the 6100 Medium Weight, 6100-Heavy Weight, 3120, 84004 and 84003 curtain tracks. If you are looking for a track that will support heavy curtains hung from high ceilings, we suggest the 16 Gauge Galvanized Steel track.
Once you have installed your tracks, you can add our steel hooks. These hooks are sturdy and easily attach to any carrier with a ring to allow for curtains with holes or grommets.
Revitalize your outdoor space and make it new again by adding curtain tracks and curtains to protect against the hot afternoon sun and even rain. Our blog has an entire section dedicated to outdoor curtains and projects to provide ideas and inspiration. Let us know how we can help you with your outdoor project!
You know the sound floor to ceiling curtains make in a hotel room when you open them in the morning? Or how about the sound of privacy curtains closing when you need to visit a doctor? It’s the sound of seamlessness… curtains easily gliding along a high-quality track with high-quality carriers.
Now, let us ask you another question. Do you know the sound curtains make when getting stuck on a curtain track as you try to open them or pull them closed? We are talking about that sound they make when they get stuck along the track in a weird groove or where two tracks are connected. Frustrating, right?
EASY = GOOD
We aren’t sure about you, but we prefer when the curtains glide easily along a track. Let’s face it: opening and closing curtains shouldn’t be something you even think about, let along get angry over if they don’t move as easily as they should. That’s where Curtain-Tracks can help.
WHO DO YOU TRUST?
If you are thinking of installing curtain tracks in your home or office and decide to visit various online businesses, we encourage you to do some checking on the products before you buy them. DIFFERENT IS GOOD
Over the years we have talked to customers who have used curtain tracks and curtains in a variety of ways. In fact, we have an entire category on our blog dedicated to this very topic. So if you are feeling like you are in a creative rut, keep reading, and we will share some fun uses for our products.
BEDROOMS, BASEMENTS AND GARAGES
Finding another use for a product, other than the one it was originally created for, can be fun and functional. We have had customers use our curtain tracks, hardware and accessories in ways that you wouldn't even imagine and we think the results are pretty fantastic. One such design idea includes using curtains and curtain tracks along a bedroom wall. The floor-to-ceiling lush fabric of the curtains creates a beautiful backdrop that also serves as a headboard and the focus when you walk in the room is immediately drawn to this focal point.
Another Curtain-Tracks customer, Carrie, used the 6100 Flexible Curtain Track to create a sound booth in her basement. With her career taking off and the opportunity to work from home, she wanted to create a sound booth that not only looked good, but also worked well. Her basement has a drop ceiling, so installation was quite easy with the use of drop ceiling clamps. To ensure the curtains would stay closed when she is recording and to help eliminate distractions, she made sure the lead carrier on each panel is a magnetic catch carrier that holds the curtains together with just a bit of overlap, which also helps keep out sound.
Another completely unique use for curtain tracks includes a project that customer, Libby, completed in her garage a while ago. She wanted to create a hockey backstopfor her kids so she used Curtain-Tracks Extra Heavy Duty track and heavy duty trolly, aka super strong carrier, and a durable tarp. Now she has the coolest garage in the neighborhood!
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
These are just a few fun examples of how you can use Curtain-Tracks products for your next project. There are so many other creative uses, including concealing a water heater, adding curtain tracks to a golf cart or creating an art station or art gallery. Have you used our products in a unique way? Tell us all about it!
AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL
Albert Einstein once said, "Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better." We think one great way to do this is to explore our national parks. In fact, our national parks offer America the Beautiful passes which covers entrance fees at national parks and national wildlife refuges as well as day use fees at national forests and grasslands. If you are thinking of visiting some of our fantastic parks in 2018, how about sprucing up the inside of your RV or luxury van?
RVs, CAMPERS, VANS, OH MY!
Over the years, we have worked with dozens and dozens of happy customers who have used our products to renovate the inside of their home on wheels. C-T customers, David and Deborah wanted to separate the cab of their 1995 EuroVan Camper with the back so they used the 3112 Plastic Curtain Track, added snap carriers and snap tape. This track is very easy to install and works well in a small space. The snap carriers and snap tape allow the curtains to be easily removed if they need to be cleaned or if you want a new look.
For those who would like to cover the front windshield and two side windows of their RV, Curtain-Tracks’ 4108 Bendable I Beam Curtain Track is a perfect solution. If you find that you need more than eight feet of length, you’ll want 4130 wall splicer or 4128 ceiling splicer. And don’t forget the end stops! 4132 end stops are designed to keep the curtains in place when open.
HIT THE OPEN ROAD
Whatever your home on wheels needs, Curtain-Tracks is here to help! If you are looking for more helpful tips on adding curtain tracks, hardware and curtains to RVs, Motorhomes, Buses, Trucks, or Eurovans, visit our blog under RVs and Travel Trailers or give us a call at (888) 434-7444.
TIME TO RELAX
We have had the pleasure of working with business owners in a variety of settings. Our products have helped retail establishments create trendy changing rooms, complete the look of a display window, and conceal unsightly beams. Recently, one happy Curtain-Tracks customer and business owner created a massage room in her home and used curtain-tracks and accessories to create the serene space. She used our Extra Heavy Duty Track because it has a thicker top wall for added support and our Large Double Wheel Carrier. She added eclipse curtains for their room darkening and sound absorbing qualities, which are available in a variety of lengths.
In addition to the many businesses we already mentioned, Curtain-Tracks products can be seen in retail establishments such as nail spas. Curtain tracks and sheers can soften the look of a retail space, creating a more serene experience for the customer. Simply add them along a wall in front of spa chairs. For those businesses with drop ceilings like the one in the photo below, there is an easy solution: simply use the 6155 Clamp which eliminates the need to drill holes and allows for easy changes in design. The drop ceiling clamp allows for attachment to the metal parts/frame of the drop ceiling and the 6151 cartridge allows the carriers and hooks to connect to the clamp. Add the 6100 Flexible Curtain Track and you can decide to use the track in a straight line or curve it by hand.
WHAT'S IN STORE IN 2018?
Our products allow business owners to enhance or completely transform their retail space as they would like without costing an arm and a leg. Can we help you and your business in 2018?
TO COVER OR NOT TO COVER... THAT IS THE QUESTION
There is the ongoing debate on whether or not you should cover your curtain tracks. Whether your curtain tracks are wall-mounted or ceiling mounted, our tracks look great uncovered. However, should you decide to cover your tracks, what are some options?
You will notice that most hotels use curtain tracks above their windows and oftentimes they are ceiling mounted. Most come with a wand so they can easily be opened and closed allowing the carriers to glide smoothly along the track. You will also notice that in most hotels, there is a valance of some sort concealing the curtain track like this hotel in Houston, Texas. We believe the reason they do this is to enhance the décor of the room. We have seen valances made of the same fabric as the curtains, wood valances made with intricate trim, and valances that have a fabric mounted over a frame (cornice box) so it gives a clean sleek look. In fact, we even wrote a post on how to build a cornice box so it fits over the track to hide the hardware even when the curtains are open. Every hotel has a different style.
WHAT'S YOUR STYLE?
When you decide to use a curtain track, you should consider what the look is you are going for in the room? If you love a simple style and want the focus to be on your curtains alone, then there is no need to add a valance unless you feel it is an important design element for your room. On the other hand, if you prefer clean lines, perhaps you may want to build a wood valance with crisp trim.
If you decide to add a valance, what style will you choose? Fabric? Wood? Fabric mounted on a frame? We would love to hear your thoughts. Let us know what style you prefer in the comments. If you are still searching for ideas, visit our Photo Gallery for dozens of design ideas.
Have you ever had to open curtains that are hung from a high ceiling? If you have, did you have to tug on them to open and close them or did you use a wand? A curtain wand (also known as a baton), is often added to curtains, whether they are at standard height or on tall windows. The wand allows for added ease when opening and closing. This handy-dandy item is often overlooked because let's face it, it's not an especially glamorous accessory. But this small piece of hardware allows for seamless opening and closing of curtains and you will find them at many establishments, most commonly, in hotels and homes. In fact, we would almost bet you will find them in 90% of the hotels you visit!
We will admit that the wand, or baton, is one of our favorite pieces of hardware. Our 84182 White Fiberglass Wand and 7136 Clear Acrylic Wand can be attached to almost any curtain simply by clipping it to the last carrier. It's not flashy but once installed, the wand allows you to easily open and close curtains, even those heavy draperies hung from a tall ceiling. If you are looking for a kit, our Master Carriers & Wands (Batons) Kit might be just what you are looking for. It has 8 Wheel Master Carriers to offer superior stability and overlap of curtains when drawn. Includes a left and right master carrier and two 36 inch clear acrylic wands with clips for easy attachment. The wands are hidden out of sight behind the curtain when clipped to master carrier.
WHY ASK WHY?
Our customers often ask us, "Why should I use a wand when I can just pull the curtains open?" The answer is simple. Using a wand can help save your curtain track, carriers and curtains from dirty hands and wear and tear. An added bonus: they are inexpensive!
GO FOR IT
The function of these little magic wands is pretty awesome. The next time you are working on a project, consider adding a wand. If you already use one, we would love to hear your thoughts.
We recently stayed in a hotel in downtown Chicago and were immediately impressed with the décor in the lobby. The architecture was stunning and the tall windows with curtain tracks behind the lobby bar were absolutely fantastic. The tall windows drew the eyes up and made the space feel elegant and sophisticated.
DON’T BE INTIMIDATED
Decorating tall windows doesn’t have to be intimidating. You can create an elegant look in your own home (even if the ceiling isn’t quite as tall as a hotel lobby), simply by adding the right track. One type of curtain track that is useful for tall windows is our 3120 Extra Heavy Duty Curtain Track. It has a thicker top wall for added support and is available in Silver or Black anodized aluminum. This track is compatible with 7140 Double Wheel or 7146 Short Snap Carriers.
Once your tracks are installed, you need to decide on the curtains. Oftentimes, our customers will add a simple set of sheers. This creates some privacy while still allowing light to shine in. To add a more dramatic effect, you can add billowing curtains that can be open or drawn closed. Next, consider the length of your curtains. There are two schools of thought on curtain length: 1.) Curtains just hit the floor, or 2.) Curtains break slightly and extend to the floor 3-4 inches. The second option creates a look that is a bit more relaxed. After you decide on the length, consider the width of the curtains. We suggest curtains have a combined width that is 2 to 2½ times the width of the window which will create fullness even when the curtains are drawn closed.
READY TO TRY?
The next time you are in a hotel and notice the elegant tall windows, think about the tracks that are used to design that look and how you can recreate a similar look in your own home. Don’t be intimidated by your tall windows, instead, embrace the decorating possibilities! Our friendly customer service team is here to help you select the right curtain track, hardware and curtains. Peter, Paul and Mary once sang a song that was not only famous, but extremely catchy as well. "Where have all the flowers gone?" is the theme for this post. That means everytime you ask yourself, "Where have all the carriers gone?" you have to sing it to the tune of this song!
Although we make light of the fact that curtain carriers do go missing, it is a very real question we must ask. Where do they really go? Well, if you didn't buy your curtain tracks and hardware from Curtain-Tracks, they could very well have disappeared due to low quality. Rest assured, we can help. We have a large inventory of carriers, glides, hooks, brackets, end stops, and accessories, and we can almost always find the correct drapery hardware that will work with your current curtain track, even if it is not one of ours.
REPLACEMENT PARTS TO THE RESCUE!
We often hear from our customers when they are missing carriers in their showers. We had a customer who was missing several carriers and the remaining ones were in poor working order. After speaking with him and learning more about the products currently being used, he was able to keep his existing curtain track simply by purchasing a full set of our 7122 Curtain Track Button Carriers. The 7122 Button Carrier has a stainless steel hook and provides a ready made accessory to hang curtains with pre-existing holes -p perfect for shower curtains! By keeping his existing track, he was able to save time and money. Win-win.
Can we help get your curtain track working for you again? As always, we are here to help and maybe, just maybe, you will be able to get that song out of your head once your track and hardware are ready to go.
