Enhance The Look Of French Doors

THAT'S FRENCHY

French doors on their own, make a beautiful statement to a room. They are aesthetically pleasing to the eye, allow plenty of natural light to flood into the space and give you a wide open view to the outdoors. But with all of these benefits, there can be a need to add curtains to these doors to allow for privacy. This is certainly possible and will not take away from the beauty of the doors. All you need to do are these three steps.

1. Choose a curtain track. We have a wide selection of curtains tracks and for French Doors, we suggest selecting a ceiling mount track. A ceiling mount track can create a seamless look to the room and some of our tracks can even be recessed into the ceiling. Another option is the 6100 Flexible Curtain Track. It is a sleek, simple track that can be mounted to the ceiling or wall and even bent by hand if needed.

2. Choose end stops and curtain carriers. End stops keep the carriers or glides within the track. They can also anchor the curtain at the end of the track or mid track as needed and carriers allow for ease of movement of the curtains. Using high-quality drapery hardware allows the curtains to be opened and closed smoothly and quietly.

3. Select curtains. There are a couple schools of thought when it comes to adding curtains to French Doors. You can choose a curtain that is room darkening if you are looking for complete privacy or you can select a curtain that is light and airy yet still compliments the doors. There are curtains available that are thinner (similar to shears) that provide some privacy while still allowing light to shine into the room.

These French Doors Just Need Curtains

We love the look of French doors but adding curtains doesn't have to take away from their beauty, it can enhance it. Follow the steps above and once you are done dressing up your doors, we would love to see a picture to share on our blog.

Finish Off Your French Doors With Curtains

FROM OLD TO NEW

If you are familiar with any of the popular remodeling shows on tv, then you know that an “open concept” is a design element that nearly every homeowner requests. To create this open space, walls are knocked down, support beams are put in place and old single doors are replaced with beautiful French doors that allow more natural light to fill the space. The television designer often then decorates the home in a shabby chic or modern style. When they do this, you will notice that every window has a window treatment, including those French doors. But what about your home and your French doors or sliding glass doors?

SOFTEN THE LOOK

Adding beautiful floor-to-ceiling curtains will warm up any space, and French doors are no exception. To create this look, you simply need a ceiling-mounted curtain track, which we think is the best drapery hardware for dressing a French door. Often, there is very little space from the top of the door to the ceiling so adding a ceiling mounted curtain track is ideal. If you prefer a look where you can’t see the track, some of our tracks can be recessed into the ceiling giving your gorgeous curtains all the focus! If you have a wall of window or several doors that open to the outside, our curtain tracks can even be spliced together as one continuous design element.

PRIVACY PLEASE

Adding curtains to your glass doors not only add a finishing touch to your room, they are functional as well! Simply pull them closed when you need some privacy. If you have French doors in your first floor master suite, consider adding Eclipse light-blocking curtains which help block out light and sound.

Dress Up Your French Doors

FABULOUS FRENCH DOORS

French doors are fabulous for many reasons but the one reason we love most is that they let the sun shine in! Daylight savings time is here and that means there will be fewer hours of daylight and we want to take advantage of the sun as much as we can during the dreary winter months.

MAKE THEM EVEN MORE BEAUTIFUL

Even though French doors are already beautiful, sometimes you need a bit of privacy so we like to capitalize on this beauty by adding gorgeous curtains. A simple set of sheers on a simple curtain track can be a gorgeous compliment but if you would like more privacy, a set of heavier fabric curtains over a sheer is a great way to “close off” the room when needed. If you want something even heavier, our Eclipse Light-Blocking Curtains are a great option for privacy and room darkening, with the added bonus of sound-absorbing, too. These are particularly useful if you are one of those lucky souls who have a set of French doors in your bedroom.

MAKING TRACKS

Any of our popular ceiling curtain tracks will work well with your French doors, especially since some of our tracks can even be recessed into the ceiling, creating a seamless floor to ceiling look that adds visual height to the door and allows you to treat the whole area as one design element. And of course, the 6100 Flexible Curtain Track is also a good choice as it can be mounted on the wall or ceiling and bent by hand into curved or angled shapes. Just add our high-quality drapery hardware, including curtain carriers and gliders to allow the curtains to be opened and closed smoothly and quietly and your French doors will not only be beautiful but also functional!

Viola! French Door Curtains!

We love all things French: French wine, French chocolate, French fries…but we digress. French doors make it into our top-ten list of favorite French things for good reason. These entryways originated in France several hundred years ago as large windows with a frame that opened, and had a purely practical purpose – they let in light to areas that needed it before electricity was invented. Luckily, in this case, necessity was the mother of style. Far from becoming obsolete after the invention of the light bulb, these beautiful entryways have flourished and become a coveted addition to the modern home.
