Make Your Own Curtains, Part 1
We like to encourage “out of the box” thinking. In fact, we like to get REALLY out of the box, as in, all the way out of the building. We are convinced that curtains are not just for living rooms or bedrooms…or even just for windows. We think curtains can be on the move.
Sometimes, even your curtains need a quick getaway, or at least a quick, easy way to be released from their track. Snap carriers are an ingenious gadget that allows just this. These carriers are hung directly from a curtain track, but rather than have a hook, they have a “female” snap that fits into the “male” snap on a product called snap tape. The tape is sewn into the top of the curtain or drape, and allows the whole panel to be snapped right onto the carriers.
Have a tour bus or commercial bus you want to make more enjoyable to ride on? Curtains installed on the windows can be a big help. These keep heat and light from entering, which helps to maintain the comfort of the passengers. In addition, curtains can be used on buses for to provide privacy for bunks or sleeping areas.
Your RV is like a second home on the road, and it should be outfitted with all the comforts of home, including curtains. On RVs, curtains play a more varied role than simply providing privacy from the windows outside. They may be used to partition off bunks or close showers. You also have the option to use them to block out light and/or cold from exterior windows by choosing light blocking or insulating material for your RV curtains.
When Garrett at Cricket Trailer set out to combine his expertise in the design of small living quarters honed working for NASA on the Habitation Module of the International Space Station with his interest in camping, the concept of an "innovative, lightweight, compact, and flexible small environment" in which to travel and explore was born. As he worked through the design process, it eventually came time to address the need for a toilet and shower in his creative camper. Logically he set out to find the right curtain track that could be used to hang a curtain that would offer privacy and retain water. That's were the relationship between Cricket Trailers and Curtain-Tracks.con was born.
In thumbing through the current issue of Departures magazine, I came across an interesting article about Airstream travel trailers by Jesse Will. He chronicles a number of interesting facts (some of which are shared below) and it is certainly worth a look if you have any interest in Airstream Trailers, Travel Trailers in general, or RVs. Here is some of the history shared about the iconic manufacturer of the unmistakable aluminum skinned trailers:
In response to our call for pictures in this month's email newsletter, Tim W. from Bangor, ME was the first to respond. Thanks Tim! He shared the picture below showing the new curtains he added to his VW Westfalia Camper (also known as a Westy). Tim used the 3096 Wrinkle Band and 4040 Wrinkle Band Hooks for his project, along with the 3050 Eye Slides to replace some missing from his VW Westfalia curtain track system.
