If you live in a home with a sloped ceiling you may be wondering to yourself, "How in the world can I even hang curtains in this room?" We've heard it from other customers so you wouldn't be the first one with this question. We are here to assure you, it is indeed possible!
ON A SLANT
When it comes to mounting a curtain track and curtains on a ceiling with a slope or slant, we suggest you start with our product line of suspension hardware. Suspension hardware is designed to mount to a slanted or sloped ceiling but provides a track system that is horizontal, and above all, level. Depending on the room and the end design goal, many customers add curtains and drapes to the track to create a room divider. This is especially popular in loft apartments and condos and other rooms that have tall ceilings.
HOW LOW WILL YOU GO?
When we work with customers on a project like this, we talk about the room, the direction of the slant in the ceiling as well as how far down the track should go. We work with each customer to help them decide what track is best for the project, whether it's the 88001 Privacy Cubicle Track, an aluminum track in silver or white and available in 6 foot, 8 foot, 12 foot and 16 foot sections, the Privacy Cubicle Curtain Track 90 Degree Bend, a track bent to a 90 degree angle with a 12 inch bend radius measured on the inside edge of the track and can be spliced with straight sections for L" and "U" shaped configurations, or the Privacy Cubicle Curtain Track 45 Degree Bend, a track that can be bent to a 45 degree angle with a 12 inch bend radius measured on the inside edge of the track and has a 34 inch run in each direction.
Intimidated by all of this? Never fear - the Curtain-Tracks friendly customer service team is here to help! We love a challenge and are here to make sure you select the perfect track and accessories for your project. We will even help you with installation tips.
Don't let that sloped ceiling get you down... let us help you finish the design of the room!
Older homes often have a lot of character, like arched entryways, beautiful crown molding, cozy little nooks and sometimes even odd angles. The uniqueness of each older home sometimes poses a decorating challenge, especially when walls aren’t completely symmetrical. When it comes to window treatments, of course we always prefer using curtain tracks over rods, but especially in a home that may have a sloped ceiling; a curtain track will always win.
OPTION 1 & 2
Don’t be intimidated by the unevenness of a sloped ceiling. Ceiling-mounted curtain tracks offer a solution. You can install the track directly into the slope of the ceiling but then you need to decide about the curtain panel. You can leave it in a rectangular shape and have the bottom hem follow the angle of the ceiling or you can purchase or make a very long panel and cut it so that it fits the space provided. Either is acceptable, but the first has a bit more of a drawback. Transforming your rectangular curtain into a parallelogram is easy, but will leave an opening near the floor and increase the perception that the room is off kilter. The second option of trimming a corner of a long curtain to fit the space will create a dramatic look, but opening the panel becomes tricky as the longer side of the panel will pool on the floor when moved to the shorter part of the ceiling-which isn’t necessarily bad from a designer standpoint as curtains that pool slightly on the floor are all the rage in the decorator world.
BEHIND DOOR 3
There is an option 3. Hanging our 88001 Privacy Cubicle Track offers another option. Suspend the track to make it level. Our suspension parts, compatible with 88001, will allow you to install the track on a sloped ceiling using suspension tubing. Simply cut the tubing to length, and attach one end to the ceiling with the 88204 Ceiling Flange, and connect the other end of the tubing to the track with the 88202 Track Adapters. The tubing is attached by drilling a hole to allow the mounting bolt to pass through the tubing. You will see this method in retail stores, lofts and other establishments where there are extremely high ceilings.
