Thumb through any design magazine and you often see articles focused on room makeovers, budget redesigns, and do it yourself projects aimed to enhance the beauty of a room. In doing just that and reviewing the Fall 2010 issue of Do It Yourself Magazine, a Better Homes and Gardens publication, we noticed several examples where designers were using curtains instead of doors. We wanted to share several examples with you to help inspire your "inner designer!"
There has been a push in recent years for “open workspaces” in the corporate world. This type of workspace puts lots of employees in one large room with little, if anything, to separate each employee from the next; much like a 1960s newsroom, minus the clacking typewriters. The idea is that this environment will encourage collaboration and allow the company to be more creative and productive. A recent New Yorker blog highlights some research that indicates the reality is quite different. Open workspaces are noisy and privacy is lacking. These conditions lead to distracted, less productive, less satisfied employees. Health may even be affected as workers in an open workspace tend to take more sick days than those in an individual office.
GET SOME PRIVACY
According to a study, people spend approximately 420 minutes a week in the bathroom so you just might want to consider sprucing it up just a tad. One simple way to do that is to update the look of your shower with a new shower curtain. A fantastic shower curtain can really set the tone for a bathroom. However, if your bathroom has a tall ceiling, you may be wondering how you can create an elegant look. This is when the Recmar 7185 Beaded Chain Curtain Drop comes into play.
The Beaded Chain Curtain Drops are often used with privacy cubicle curtains to allow enough space for sprinkler systems in the event of a fire. But these drop chains can also help close the gap between a curtain and the ceiling mount curtain track system (like on tall ceilings in a bathroom!).
Available in 12”, 16.5” or 28.5” lengths, the Beaded Chain (Ball Chain) Drop comes with Eyelets and Hook. The brass chain and eyelet is nickel plated with a stainless steel hook, helping to prevent rust or corrosion from water or steam. Another great feature is if the lengths of the chain aren’t the exact perfect length, the eyelets are removable which allow you to create a custom length for your project. And don't forget, when it comes to your shower curtains, we offer custom sized shower curtains in a variety of materials ranging from commercial grade vinyl to fabrics.
Ready to redecorate that bathroom and give the drop chains a try? Contact us with any questions and we’d love to see your before and after pictures!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE
Pleated curtains. We love them. They add a beautiful finished look to windows and will make all who see them envious of your design style. Pleated curtains have a sense of elegance to them and they allow you to try out some different pieces of hardware that you may not be completely familiar with.
If the pleated look is something you are trying to achieve, rest assured you CAN do it. Just follow these steps:
- Lay out the fabric
- Pinch the pleat in the front
- Fold the fabric into an accordion shape
- Sew a small seam top to bottom
- Double fold the edges on the top and bottom.
There are some options when it comes to drapery hardware. You can use Tail Slides (available in black, white and natural) into the pocket of the pleat. A tail slide eliminate the need for a carrier as it slides on the track on its own. When using tail slides in this way, you will need to use the 3296 aluminum curtain track.
The other option is to use a Drapery Hook placed into the middle of the pleat. Curtains hooks are a bit more familiar in the curtain hanging world. It hooks in the curtain pleat and requires a carrier to attach to the track. When using drapery hooks and carriers, chances are you can use whatever track you prefer, even if that means sticking with your existing curtain track.
We’ve written another article on this very topic but if you have any questions, please reach out to our friendly customer service team. We love to work with customers to make their windows beautiful!
Beginning with Wally Byam's dream to build the perfect travel trailer, Airstream travel trailers have been manufactured for over 70 years. The classic and efficient designs of those early trailers are still present in today's models, with the look of the Airstream mostly unchanged. Airstreams have certainly stood the test of time and their popularity continues to grow (as documented in the Today Show segment provided below), particularly as the RV industry begins to show signs that the US economy is indeed picking up some momentum on its way to a recovery.
FABULOUS FRENCH DOORS
French doors are fabulous for many reasons but the one reason we love most is that they let the sun shine in! Daylight savings time is here and that means there will be fewer hours of daylight and we want to take advantage of the sun as much as we can during the dreary winter months.
MAKE THEM EVEN MORE BEAUTIFUL
Even though French doors are already beautiful, sometimes you need a bit of privacy so we like to capitalize on this beauty by adding gorgeous curtains. A simple set of sheers on a simple curtain track can be a gorgeous compliment but if you would like more privacy, a set of heavier fabric curtains over a sheer is a great way to “close off” the room when needed. If you want something even heavier, our Eclipse Light-Blocking Curtains are a great option for privacy and room darkening, with the added bonus of sound-absorbing, too. These are particularly useful if you are one of those lucky souls who have a set of French doors in your bedroom.
Any of our popular ceiling curtain tracks will work well with your French doors, especially since some of our tracks can even be recessed into the ceiling, creating a seamless floor to ceiling look that adds visual height to the door and allows you to treat the whole area as one design element. And of course, the 6100 Flexible Curtain Track is also a good choice as it can be mounted on the wall or ceiling and bent by hand into curved or angled shapes. Just add our high-quality drapery hardware, including curtain carriers and gliders to allow the curtains to be opened and closed smoothly and quietly and your French doors will not only be beautiful but also functional!

Last week I attended an interior design round-table discussion and was surprised with how many people were not aware of curtain tracks and all their potential in the interior design and Do-It-Yourself worlds. So, I thought it would be helpful if I pulled together a simple summary of why I love (and you'll love) working with curtain tracks from Curtain-Tracks.com.
HOT AND COLD
There aren’t many parts of the country that maintain a comfortable temperature year round. We’re looking at you with jealous eyes, San Francisco! For the rest of us, we have four seasons with four very different temperatures. This change in weather can create some interesting challenges.
AN EASY SOLUTION
The fluctuating temperatures can be a challenge for those of us who have an addition on our house or condo. The ever changing temps might keep you from using the four-seasons room in your home because it is too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer. And when you do decide to use that extra space, your furnace or air conditioning is constantly running because your thermostat is trying to compensate for the difference in temperature. We have a solution that can help. Adding our Eclipse Curtains will not only block light, they are also energy conserving so they also help when it comes to regulating the temperature in your four-seasons room. That means they help keep the cold air outside in the winter and the hot air outside in the summer. That also means a happy thermostat and a comfortable room temperature in a room that you can now enjoy.
MORE THAN ONE USE
Eclipse Curtains are a great feature for any four-seasons room (as mentioned above) that typically has three walls full of windows, because these curtains not only help with maintaining comfortable temperatures, they also block 98% of the light. By blocking the light in a room full of windows, they can help save your furniture from fading thanks to the sun.
When you are ready to start your project, consider a ceiling mounted Flexible Curtain Track. First, measure the perimeter of your space, then order the appropriate amount of track. Then, do a little math and divide that number by 10 because you will need these ceiling mounted cartridges every ten inches. Last, and the most fun, choose your favorite Eclipse Curtains. If you mount your most colorful and favorite curtains from floor to ceiling and wall to wall, you can drastically change the feeling of the room.
READY TO GET STARTED?
When you are ready to move forward with your project, our customer service representatives are available to answer any questions and we even have installation guides that will make this project a breeze. We get excited just thinking about the possibilities of this project! Send us pictures if you give it a try in your own home.
Our customer support team gets a lot of calls and emails at Curtain-Tracks.com asking for advice on how to hang curtains or draperies on Bay Windows. Because the bay window is typically comprised of three or five separate windows oriented at angles to one another, it can create a challenge for anyone hoping to improve the appearance of their room with window treatments.
If you tire of pulling your curtains shut only to have the opposite end of the curtains open, we have a couple quick tips for you. The appropriate method for you will depend on the type of curtain track you are using. For a simple C channel type track like the 32124, 42124, or 52124 tracks, you can use a pair of 7127 end stops to hold the first carrier in place to prevent curtain from opening at one end. This allows you to pull the curtain from one side without the entire curtain from being moved. This is especially useful in curtains that are used as room partitions for privacy because it allows for the single-handed complete closure of the curtain.
There are different ways to conceal or hide the drapery hardware that suspends your curtains. You may choose to install the curtains high enough so the top edge of the material covers the tracks, but this is not your only option. A cornice box fits over the track to hide the hardware even when the curtains are open. Material on the exterior of the box adds a decorative touch. This is a home improvement project that most you can complete on their own. If you can use a hammer and nails, you can likely build a cornice or valence box. Cornices also serve a practical purpose in closing off drafts from around the top of the window.
AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL
Albert Einstein once said, "Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better." We think one great way to do this is to explore our national parks. In fact, our national parks offer America the Beautiful passes which covers entrance fees at national parks and national wildlife refuges as well as day use fees at national forests and grasslands. If you are thinking of visiting some of our fantastic parks in 2018, how about sprucing up the inside of your RV or luxury van?
RVs, CAMPERS, VANS, OH MY!
Over the years, we have worked with dozens and dozens of happy customers who have used our products to renovate the inside of their home on wheels. C-T customers, David and Deborah wanted to separate the cab of their 1995 EuroVan Camper with the back so they used the 3112 Plastic Curtain Track, added snap carriers and snap tape. This track is very easy to install and works well in a small space. The snap carriers and snap tape allow the curtains to be easily removed if they need to be cleaned or if you want a new look.
For those who would like to cover the front windshield and two side windows of their RV, Curtain-Tracks’ 4108 Bendable I Beam Curtain Track is a perfect solution. If you find that you need more than eight feet of length, you’ll want 4130 wall splicer or 4128 ceiling splicer. And don’t forget the end stops! 4132 end stops are designed to keep the curtains in place when open.
