We are often asked why someone should choose curtain tracks over curtain rods. It's a fair question and the options can be overwhelming. Never fear! We are here to help!
KEEP THE LIGHT OUT
If you are looking to add room darkening, sound absorbing and energy conserving eclipse light blocking curtains to a window, curtain tracks would be your best bet. Curtain tracks can be mounted on the ceiling ensuring the entire window is covered, similar to what you see in nearly every hotel room. When the entire window is covered and your curtains block the light, you are more likely to get a solid night's sleep.
If you have tall windows in your home, a curtain track system is going to be most effective. Tall windows call for curtains with lots of fabric which means added weight. With curtain rods, heavy curtains can drag the rod down (or pull it off the wall completely). Several curtain tracks work well with rolling ball carriers allowing for smooth opening and closing of the curtains. Add a wand to the curtain panels (the 60 inch wand length is great for tall curtains and high ceilings), and opening and closing just became easier and eliminates hand prints on fabric.
If you are looking to attract attention to your window, besides just the curtains, you may want to consider curtain rods. Curtain rods are available in many styles and sizes and can have decorative corbels adding a different design element to your room.
STILL NOT SURE?
If you aren't sure if curtain tracks or curtain rods will work best for your project, give us a call or send us an email! We are happy to answer your questions.
AS SEEN ON TV
Shows such as Counting Cars on the History Channel and Fast and Loud on Discovery “trick out” cars with extravagant accessories (think large spoilers, eleaborate rims on the tires) and paint jobs that catch your eye. These shops that are featured on tv often have large, open spaces giving them plenty of room to perfect their car craft. But for body shops across the rest of America, the space may not be as large. When this is the case, our industrial track is perfect as it can enclose a space, which is especially useful when painting a car. This track is a strong, heavy duty track that can hold industrial strength curtains. When closed, a car can be painted safely without harming nearby cars.
SUPER, DUPER STRONG
This heavy-duty Industrial Roller Track - 16 Gauge Galvanized Steel is roll formed from 16 gauge hot dipped galvanized steel, sold in 8-foot lengths and rated to support loads between 100 - 175 pounds. Now, that's strong! The Industrial Roller Track is popular for many reasons including its compatibility with a wide range of mounting hardware, curved sections, trolleys, splicers, and end stops. The track is constructed with a safety flange to assist in guiding trolleys safely when the curtain is pulled and is punched and beveled on ends for splicing and adjoining multiple pieces. Mounting options include flush ceiling mount, chain mount, beam flange mount, wall mount, or threaded rod mount.
CAR WASHES AND MORE
This track is not only found in autobody shops, you will also see them in warehouses, loading docks, welding areas, aircraft hangars and even in commercial car washes. This track is that good! You can find more information on this extra strong track here or give us a call (888) 434-7444!
WIDE OPEN SPACES
Open office spaces were once thought to be the best thing since sliced bread. They allowed for improved social interaction, collaboration and increased productivity. Inc.com recently published an article discussing this short lived trend and how "people are still people and like most people you and your employees probably wouldn't mind a little time away from...well...other people." But if your work space is wide open and you aren't willing to move your team to a new office or you have another five years on a lease, what are you to do to keep your employees happy?
SMALL SPACES, BIG IMPACT
Creating a private space or two in an open office environment will allow employees to take a much needed break, if needed, from others. One idea is to create a quiet room and if adding walls to your office environment isn't feasible, the 3120 Extra Heavy Duty Curtain Track can be your solution. Available in silver or black anodized aluminum, it has a thicker top wall for added support. Add 7140 Double Wheel or 7146 Short Snap Carriers, sound absorbing curtains, a couple extra comfy chairs to the space, and you have created an area where members of your team can take a quick break. This same concept works if you are looking to create a small meeting space.
THE SKY'S THE LIMIT
Don't be frustrated with your office space. There are many options when it comes to creating an environment that allows for team work but also permits private spaces. Our team is here to help. For more ideas for your workplace, check out these blog posts.
After you complete that project using Curtain-Tracks’ tracks and accessories, you may find yourself with a little extra on hand. When this is the case, don’t throw that track away. Instead, use it in a creative way! Here we share some unique uses for that extra track.
A NEW LOOK
How about removing that old closet door and replacing that door with fabulous curtains? If you happen to have extra track, add that across the frame of the closet door, at the top of the frame, or even to the ceiling above the door, then select the curtain for your new closet door. To make the room feel larger and luxurious, add long, full curtains.
Curtain-Track’s customer, Libby, used the Extra Heavy Duty track to make a hockey back stop in her garage for her kids. The track is super strong and with solid carriers, she attached a heavy tarp to catch all of those hockey pucks. Now, you may not have enough extra curtain track for something like this, but our customer service team is available to help should you be interested in starting a project like this one.
How about using extra curtain track to create a puppet stage for your kiddos? Or, create a statement by adding curtain tracks to the ceiling behind your bed and adding curtains to create an accent wall or a headboard. What about creating an extra storage space in the basement or garage? The options are endless!
HERE FOR YOU
Whatever you decide, our friendly customer service team is here to help. Give us a call and we will brainstorm with you and find a use for that extra track (or tracks)! You can also check out our Blog for more ideas.
IT'S A SNAP!
What exactly is snap tape? This isn't an uncommon question and quite frankly, we get asked it often. In fact, we have wriiten a popular blog post on this very topic sharing instructions on how you can add snap tape to your curtain panels.
The long and short of it is snap tape comes in a roll and is made with 1-inch wide polyester webbing and nickel plated brass snaps spaced 4.25 inches apart. It can be sewn directly onto a curtain you have purchased or custom made curtains and is especially popular on ripple fold draperies. The benefit of snap tape is it allows for easy removal of the curtains from the drapery hardware and eliminates the need to remove any hooks which is great when you are wanting to clean the curtains. It can also create a full look with your curtains when it is used with our 84106 carrier. If you just love the ripple fold look when your curtains are closed, the 84106 Wheeled Carrier- Corded for Ripple Fold is a fantastic choice. When attached to the snaps, this system will hold the ripples at desired uniform spacing. When it comes to curtain tracks, check out the 84003 & 84004.
For step by step instructions on using snap Tape on your curtain panels, check out our blog post! We are also always eager to help! You can contact our friendl;y customer service team with any questions at 1-888-465-0274.
SMALLER IS BETTER
We live in a society where it is fairly common to want more but there are benefits to living with less. Becoming Minimalist shares 12 benefits of owning less and not only does having fewer items make it easier to clean your space, you will also spend fewer dollars and have less stress. For people that embrace a "less is more lifestyle" and live in a smaller (or tiny) home, there can be some challenges, specifically when it comes to storing those items. Off-season clothing, linens and kitchen items need a place when not in use so we suggest rethinking a closet space you already have. One way to maximize closet space is to remove the door entirely and adding a curtain.
EVERY INCH COUNTS
Removing the door and replacing with a wall or ceiling mount curtain track, along with a decorative curtain, not only enhances the look of your space, it also allows for some extra room to store those items. Maximizing space is critical when living in a small home with limited storage and using curtains instead of a closet door will allow you to utilize every single square inch. Simply install a durable curtain track along with carriers, end stops and mounting hardware and adding a curtain to an existing closet, and you will instantly create some extra space in your home.
Our friendly customer service representatives can help you decide on the best curtain track and accessories for your closet door and are happy to discuss any other storage challenges you might be facing in your home. Give them a call at 888-434-7444 and they will be happy to discuss this with you.
NOT SO GREAT
Companies often boast that open work spaces allow for open communication and collaboration among team members but recent studies show it does just the opposite. An article recently published in Forbes states that, "31% of employees in open offices say they hold back their true thoughts and opinions while on calls in the office because they don’t want co-workers to hear and judge them." It also shares "1 in 8 (13%) of open office workers in the U.S. feel that their company’s office layout has pushed them to consider leaving their job and feel resentful towards more senior staff with private offices." Also, 1 in 3 workers feel distractions and noise from open work spaces hinder their productivity, while 1 in 6 say it hinders creativity as well. These are staggering statistics. So if your company office is an open work space, what are you to do?
BUILD A WALL
Constructing walls to create individual offices may not be realistic, or even within budget. But a simple solution to create private areas in an open office space is to install curtain tracks and eclipse curtains to create curtain "walls". Eclipse curtains help absorb sound so these curtain walls can be used to create smaller "phone booth" spaces so employees can speak with clients or customers and not feel like their conversation is being overheard by the entire office. Curtain walls can also be used to create conference rooms or huddle spaces. The beauty of creating these walls is when there is a need for an all-office meeting, simply pull the curtain walls back and open up the entire office space again.
EVERYTHING YOU NEED
Creating curtain walls may just be the answer your employees are looking for and Curtain-Tracks can help! We have the largest selection of online curtain tracks, hardware, accessories and curtains and our friendly customer service team will hep you through the entire project.
CREATE THE WOW FACTOR
When you put your home up for sale, there is so such to be done, including staging for potential home buyers. According to Realtor.com, “Curtains are one of the most underused resources when preparing a home for sale, experts say. The right set of curtains or drapes can make or break some home sales—especially when it comes to transforming a room into the staged version you want your buyers to see.”
One of our customers, Michael V., was putting his Arizona home on the market and wanted to make some upgrades to his windows. He worked with our friendly customer service team and ordered several products including the 85000 curtain track, both ceiling and wall mount options and available in white, silver, and black, for the windows and closets in his home. He then added floor to ceiling curtains.
Along with curtain track 85000, he also used 84106 Wheeled Snap Carrier - Corded For Ripplefold and the team at Curtain-Tracks helped Michael by doing 60% fullness ripple fold styling for this project. Curtain fullness refers to the number of ripples or folds when the curtains are pulled closed.
When staging your home, Coldwell Banker suggests, "Installing curtains and blinds as close to the ceiling as possible draws the eye up and makes the room appear bigger. Panels should skim the floor." Michael did just that in every single room and the end result is fantastic!
In one room, Michael removed the old closet doors and added curtains on the 85000 track. Viola! Closet curtains! Replacing dated closet doors and adding a stylish curtain can create a completely new, fresh look for the entire room.
As he was preparing his home to be sold, he didn't just upgrade his window treatments, he also created a new look in the bathroom by adding aluminum track 88001, which is available in 6 foot, 8 foot, 12 foot and 16 foot sections. He used 88102 Privacy Cubicle Two Wheel Carrier with Ball Chain & Hooks and added a robin's egg blue shower curtain.
Michael's efforts paid off. He recently contacted us to say, "I had 3 offers in 2 days of showings and just accepted one above asking price. In part thanks to your awesome curtains!" Thanks, Michael. You certainly created the Wow factor. We are so happy for you and wish you much happiness in your new home!
Netflix, Hulu, Disney, Amazon Prime Video… all household names during the COVID-19 pandemic as families are staying home binge watching original tv shows as well as some old classics. And according to TV Guide, June is sprawling with some new Must-See options. As you spend more time with family watching some of your favorites, why not improve the experience by upgrading your home theatre?
Adding (or replacing) draperies can create a fabulous Hollywood feel to your room. Add curtains along the walls, in front of your large screen and pull them closed when a movie is not being shown, or add them to any walls with windows to help keep the light out. Theatre type curtains also help absorb sound and will create a real-life movie theatre experience as the surround sound of your favorite flick reverberates throughout the room. Your neighbors will be jealous – from at least 6’ feet away.
To create an authentic movie theatre feel, start with curtain tracks. We suggest checking out the 6200 I-Beam curtain track. This aluminum track can be mounted to the ceiling or wall and is available in two lengths: 8 foot length + 4 foot length or two 6 foot pieces (12 feet total). Add the 6210 Metal Wheel Block Carriers With Nylon Wheels and you will be able to smoothly open and close your theatre curtains all day, and all night long. Once you have the tracks installed, it's time to think about the curtains. Selecting the perfect curtain can be a challenge. We suggest checking out a new option that we are offering - the Apollo and Veil blackout curtains, available in black, beige, light grey and navy. To learn more, give us a call at (888) 465-0274.
Whether you are planning on watching E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial when it comes out on Netflix June 1 or Miss Snake Charmer being released June 4 on Hulu, isn’t now the perfect time to tackle a DIY project and upgrade your home theater? And when it is all done, grab a box of candy and some buttered popcorn, sit back, relax and enjoy some screen time.
As it turns out, 2020 is the year spent at home. Hunkering down and taking precautions means more families are spending time outside. If you are spending hours and hours in the great outdoors, you may as well make the most of your outdoor space. That's just what one Curtain-Tracks customer from Centreville, MD, decided to do with her patio and the result is fantastic! This family already had a beautifully built pergola but they decided to enhance the look by adding a few different products from Curtain-Tracks, including the 3120 Heavy Duty Curtain Track in Silver, 7127 Stainless Steel End Stops, 7140 Large Double Wheel Carrier and 7142 Stainless Steel Curtain Hooks.
The pergola was already white so they simply painted their 3120 Heavy Duty Curtain Track white to match. This track is made of anodized aluminum and has thicker top wall for added support. Perfect when using on tall ceilings or pergola! This is a 12 foot track but is cut to 8 feet and 4 feet, or two 6 foot sections for shipping. They also used the 7127 End Stops. End Stops are used to close the ends of the tracks so the carriers don't slip off. They also have another use: you can use two end stops to hold a curtain carrier in place by pinning the carrier between the end stops. Doing this will keep a curtain closed at one end. Genius!
TIME TO RELAX
Once the track was installed, this customer added blue and white striped curtains that can be pulled closed for privacy but can also protect against the elements, like wind and afternoon sun. The curtains look fantastic with the landscaping and create a finished look to the patio. This patio looks so inviting, we just want to sidle up to that bar!
Whether you are looking to add curtains to your pergola, screened in room or front porch, the Curtain-Tracks team is here to help bring your vision to reality. If you have completed a project using some of our products, we would love to see your pictures. We just might share them on social media and our blog. You can send your project pictures to: email@example.com.
Enjoy the summer and stay well!
We often hear of the "Open Floor Plan" that is ideal for socialization and entertaining. In fact, most new builds offer an open concept that includes a "Great Room" and large kitchen and eating space. This open concept fad has led many homeowners who reside in an older home to look at renovating their interior space by taking down walls. But according to Bloomberg News, "If closed floor plans are considered such a nuisance these days, why did they prevail for almost 100 years in single-family working- and middle-class suburban housing? The answer: closed floor plans make a lot of sense, from both an environmental and a living perspective." If you are a homeowner who loves their closed floor plan but find it a challenge to make use of an extra room or two, these ideas just may help you transform the space into a room you will actually use.
CREATE A READING ROOM
Transforming an unused room into a functional space can create an entirely new feel to the house and often results in a, "Why didn't I do this sooner" mentality. A reading room can be used for just that - reading. It can house books, favorite knick-knacks, and just be a comfortable and quiet space for praying and meditating. Adding bookshelves or building built-ins that go to the ceiling will allow you plenty of space for all your favorite treasures. Find comfortable seating and turn them so they face each other. This will create a welcoming space for coffee and conversations. We love the added beams to this room from House Beautiful.
CREATE A FITNESS ROOM
Whether you have a treadmill, Peloton bike, or love to do yoga, make use of that currently unused space in your home by converting it into a fitness room. Clear the area of any unwanted or unneeded items and paint the room a soothing color like Green Earth CW-455 or Silver Mist 1619, both by Benjamin Moore paints. If you enjoy working out to music, add a speaker system or use a bluetooth speaker. Add some curtains on a ceiling or wall mount curtain track so the neighbors can't watch you sweat, and then you are ready to burn some calories!
CREATE A BAR
You read that right. If your dining room isn't being used and you think the square footage would be better suited as a bar, then go for it! We love this dining room conversion into a bar from Chateau Kitchens on Twitter. For this project, they removed the carpet, chair railing and furniture, and replaced the flooring, added a seating area and a fantastic bar. They also removed the door and opened up the room to the kitchen making this space extra inviting. Cheers!
YOU CAN DO THIS
If you have a room in your house that just isn't getting the use you would like, transform it! Making simple changes can make a big difference.
IS IT TIME TO DIVIDE?
Room divider curtains are becoming more popular, especially during this time of COVID-19. They are a fantastic solution to make the most out of a room, whether big or small, by dividing areas off and creating privacy. Often used in churches, conference rooms and restaurant banquet areas, room divider curtains are now seeing more use in dorm rooms, classrooms and office spaces. They not only offer flexibility in how interior spaces can be utilized, they also help with sound proofing and create a barrier for social distancing. In the image below, the restaurant added ceiling mount curtain tracks painted to match the wood beams, and curtains that compliment the decor. The curtains allow the space to be enclosed to create a separate party room.
Several factors come into play when deciding what products to use for your room divider project. These include the size of the space, the height of the ceiling and the weight of the curtains that will be used. This information will help determine the correct curtain track and hardware for the project. A common track that is often used for room divider curtains is the 3120 Extra Heavy Duty Curtain Track. This track is available in silver or black anodized aluminum and it has a thicker top wall for added support. The 7140 Double Wheel or 7146 Short Snap Carriers work well with this track. Other ceiling mount track options include the 6200 Heavy Duty I-Beam Track which is commonly used in commercial businesses such as warehouses. Another option is the 84003 Ceiling Mount Track Kit. This kit includes everything you need including a 8 foot curtain track, 28 ball bearing carriers, 2 metal end stops and 6 ceiling clips.
Creating safe, healthy spaces is more important than ever. If your business, restaurant or classroom could benefit from room divider curtains, our team is here to help. 1-888-465-0274
