IN THE KNOW
Many of our regular Curtain-Tracks blog readers know by now that several of our curtain tracks come in custom lengths that can be bent to the appropriate shape; but, what happens when you need more than the amount of length that is offered on our website? Curtain-Tracks has you covered with a few options.
THEY'VE THOUGHT OF EVERYTHING
Not only are our customer service representatives at Curtain-Tracks top notch, our product developers are genius, too! They know that many applications for our products are custom and that many are used in very large spaces. They also know that quality is a high priority for our company, and a track that makes curtains stick is just unacceptable. A splicer will allow our tracks to be mounted end to end without getting in the way of a smooth glide from our curtains and our gliders. Just one of these splicers will double the length of curtain coverage in a jiffy. Need even more length? Just add more splicers!
TO SPLICE OR NOT TO SPLICE
Tracks such as the 88001 Privacy Cubicle Track or the 4108 Bendable Beam Track are two that have splicers that match for under $5 each, making an easy and inexpensive choice for large projects. Our splicers come in a choice of colors to match your track and are very easily installed. Other tracks, such as the 3120 Extra Heavy Duty Track, do not come with an option of a splicer. This track comes in 12 foot sections that must be cut to 8 foot and 4 foot or two 6 foot sections unless shipped via freight. No fear, however, because these tracks can also be mounted end to end in order to stretch a longer distance. They just need to be aligned edge to edge, and our carriers can glide right through.
A WORD TO THE WISE
It is wise to become good friends with your level while hanging tracks in a large space. The edges of the tracks should be aligned as closely as possible so there is no gap in between, and the sides should be as flush as possible. Although our splicers and our carriers allow for carriers to glide through with ease, it is our recommendation to do a little planning to determine where the seam will fall. It is best for the seam to not see a whole lot of action, so we recommend putting it in the middle of the track, where the curtains meet.
If you aren’t sure which track or splicer will be best for your project, just give us a call. Our experts will walk you through all the points to consider and recommend the perfect fit for your purposes and space. 1-888-434-7444
Last weekend I went to my best-friend-from-childhood's wedding. I've known this girl since playing soccer on the community team at just 5 years old, so it's safe to say, Laura and I go way back. As such, I knew I could expect her a few clever twist and turns during her Chicago Cubs themed reception.
STAND OUT FROM THE CROWD
There is a lot of competition in the retail world and oftentimes, it can be difficult to stand out from other stores. Creating and maintaining a trendy store that’s just a little bit different than the next one can be a challenge, especially when you don’t have a lot of space or a huge budget. We believe Curtain-Tracks is your answer! We have one suggestion that is affordable but impressionable: create a stylish and sophisticated dressing room.
STYLISH AND SOPHISTICATED
When creating your dressing rooms, consider using quality fabrics that are more than just pretty colors. With a little something extra, like a pattern, or a texture, curtains can give a soft, stylish look to a dressing room in a retail space. We have a large variety of colors to choose from and are confident we can match just about any color palette. If you want to be absolutely certain of our colors before you make a purchase, you can always call us to request a sample. We’d be happy to send you a few so you can feel good about your order.
We take great pride in providing quality products that are sturdy and reliable. Our 84003 track, for example, is made from strong aluminum and is a great option for your store. If you have a corner of your store where you would like to add a dressing room and need a track that is flexible to fit a unique space, our 6100 curtain track is perfect for the job. All of our tracks are sturdy AND stylish, so no matter what tracks you choose, you are guaranteed quality.
ONE MORE THING
Once you select your curtai tracks, don't forget the hardware and acccessories to complete the project, like our ball bearing carriers (try 84100 that come 14 to a bag). With all of the opening and closing of the curtains your customers will be doing in your new dressing rooms, sturdy craftsmanship is especially important. Our products will pass this test time and time again.
If you have been contemplating adding or upgrading your dressing rooms in your store but don't have much room, or want something just a little unique, look no further! Give us a call and let our experts guide you through the process. 1-888-434-7444.
We hope to see several of the first few episodes of the Man Card Crew be aired soon in the Chicago area. Curtain-Tracks.com supplied curtain hardware and curtains for Episodes 1 and 3. In the video below, you will see the design overview and computer generated graphics of the media room design for Episode 3, transforming a pink sewing room into a top shelf media room and man cave that anyone would be happy to call their own. In the video (at the 1:00 minute mark), you will see and hear mention of the Curtain-Tracks.com blackout curtain made of Eclipse light blocking fabric that is hung from 88001 privacy curtain track to provide a removable divider that can prevent light from entering via the stairwell and help reduce noise from media room back into the other floors of the home.
NO MORE COOKIE CUTTERS
When it comes to building a house, builders are offering more choices for floor plans, exterior design and finishes. Oftentimes, these new houses have an open concept first floor allowing light to stream in from all of the windows or they have unique sloped ceilings. These new homes can be fabulous in so many ways but you just might have to put some extra thought into how you accessorize.
While we adore houses with character, some pose some decorating challenges. First, when it comes to hanging drapery from large two story windows, you need to consider the weight of fabric your curtain tracks can handle. We recommend our 6260 curtain track. This track can stand the weight of heavy curtains and is tough enough to handle frequent opening and closing. It comes in 12 foot sections that have to be cut into either two 6-foot sections, or one 8-foot and one 4-foot section for shipping and can be mounted to the wall or ceiling.
DON’T FALL DOWN A SLIPPERY SLOPE
When it comes to hanging curtains on a ceiling that is sloped, you might think you don’t have any available decorating options. Think again! While sloped and slanted ceilings can pose decorating challenges, all hope is not lost. Our ceiling-mounted curtains tracks for sloped ceilings are the perfect solution.
A previous blog post offers this solution: “There are some things to consider when planning to install curtain tracks for sloped ceilings. You can, of course, install the track directly into the slope of the ceiling. You will then have to make a choice about the curtain panel – do you leave it in a rectangular shape and have the bottom hem follow the angle of the ceiling? Or do you buy a very long panel and cut it so that it fits the space provided? Either is acceptable, but both have drawbacks. Transforming your rectangular curtain into a parallelogram is easy, but will leave an opening near the floor and increase the perception that the room is off kilter. Trimming a corner of a long curtain to fit will create a dramatic look, but opening the panel becomes tricky as the longer side of the panel will pool on the floor when moved to the shorter part of the ceiling.”
ONE MORE IDEA
Another idea is to use our 88001 Privacy Cubicle Track. Simply suspend the track to make it level. Check out our suspension parts which are compatible with 88001. They allow you to install the track on a sloped ceiling using suspension tubing. This will be required every three to four feet until you get to the bottom of the slope. You might see this design solution in lofts or stores that have extremely high ceilings.

BACK TO SCHOOL
August will be here before we know it and with that many students are heading off to college. When it comes to dorm room essentials, what's on the list? Bedding, TV, a refrigerator of course, but what else? There's a myriad list of odds and ends including essential items needed for class but when it comes to your actual dorm room, have you really thought about how you can make it feel more like home?
SIMPLE BUT BRILLIANT
A couple years ago, curtain tracks customer, Laurie, jazzed up her daughter's dorm room by doing something very simple but with a big impact: she added curtain tracks and curtains. She used track 84004 Ball Bearing Carrier Curtain Track with clamps that would hold the track to the framework of the drop ceiling. By doing this, it allowed her to install a full length curtain track without drilling any holes. She installed two tracks spliced together and simply cut off any extra track that wasn’t needed. After the track was installed, she added curtains that not only helped make the room feel more welcoming but also served a secondary purpose by keeping the room dark when needed. College students often burn the midnight oil studying (or perhaps socializing) resulting in fewer hours of sleep during nighttime hours. That means they have to be able to catch some Zzz's during the day. Adding curtains is a perfect solution.
WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE?
This is an easy project that even the most "unhandiest" of people can complete. We loved it so much that we pinned this simple yet brilliant dorm room idea on Pinterest and since then, it has been repinned, and most likely replicated, hundreds of times. Such a simple idea but with such a big impact.
READY TO TRY IT?
So when you make your dorm room essentials list this year, perhaps you should consider adding curtain tracks to your room or apartment. Have questions? We are here to help! Looking for design guidance? Laurie runs L Interiors in the Houston area and can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
IMAGINATIONS RUNNING WILD
Most kids love playing in forts. Whether it's a treehouse in the yard or a homemade fort in the living room, these fun enclosures bring out the best in imagination. Using curtain tracks to create an enclosure is just another fun and inexpensive way to allow kids to play make-believe. Parents, you just need to use your imagination when deciding how to create this fun space.
BUNK BEDS AND ROOM DIVIDERS
We have had many customers add our curtain tracks to bunk beds. Adding tracks and curtains can allow for more privacy (like night reading when a sibling is trying to sleep) as well as a small space for play. We have also had parents add curtain tracks to the ceiling in a child's room or in a small area of the basement. When the curtains are closed, it divides the space-play room on one side, bed on the other. Not only does it create a fun area that can be dedicated to play, it can also conceal all of the toys. Imagine adding curtains in a vibrant pattern or featuring a favorite character. It's much easier, and less expensive, to change curtain panels than paint, to go along with your child's most current interest.
For projects such as these, our 6100 Flexible Curtain Track is easy to install with the right drapery hardware, and can be bent by hand and shaped so it will fit the desired space. Our ceiling mount curtain track is another great track and comes with all the compatible drapery hardware needed for your project. Be creative when designing the space by creating fun angles.

TO COVER OR NOT TO COVER... THAT IS THE QUESTION
There is the ongoing debate on whether or not you should cover your curtain tracks. Whether your curtain tracks are wall-mounted or ceiling mounted, our tracks look great uncovered. However, should you decide to cover your tracks, what are some options?
You will notice that most hotels use curtain tracks above their windows and oftentimes they are ceiling mounted. Most come with a wand so they can easily be opened and closed allowing the carriers to glide smoothly along the track. You will also notice that in most hotels, there is a valance of some sort concealing the curtain track like this hotel in Houston, Texas. We believe the reason they do this is to enhance the décor of the room. We have seen valances made of the same fabric as the curtains, wood valances made with intricate trim, and valances that have a fabric mounted over a frame (cornice box) so it gives a clean sleek look. In fact, we even wrote a post on how to build a cornice box so it fits over the track to hide the hardware even when the curtains are open. Every hotel has a different style.
WHAT'S YOUR STYLE?
When you decide to use a curtain track, you should consider what the look is you are going for in the room? If you love a simple style and want the focus to be on your curtains alone, then there is no need to add a valance unless you feel it is an important design element for your room. On the other hand, if you prefer clean lines, perhaps you may want to build a wood valance with crisp trim.
If you decide to add a valance, what style will you choose? Fabric? Wood? Fabric mounted on a frame? We would love to hear your thoughts. Let us know what style you prefer in the comments. If you are still searching for ideas, visit our Photo Gallery for dozens of design ideas.
SO MANY STYLES
New windows not only look fantastic, they also add value to a home. There are many styles to choose from including double hung, casement, awning, picture, and one of our personal favorites, the bay window. Bay windows provide more interior space because they protrude out from the house. Oftentimes, they are a combination of windows such as a stationary window with double hung windows on the sides. The most common inside angles are 90, 135 and 150 degrees, though you can find triangular bay windows of two windows set at 120 degrees. A bay window is gorgeous, especially when it has some window accessories, such as sheers or curtains.
MAKING IT LOOK GREAT
We often speak with customers about ways to add curtain tracks and curtains to a bay window. It’s quite simple really: use our 6100 Flexible Curtain Track. This incredibly versatile track is sold by the foot and it allows long continuous lengths for curved or angled applications, but can also be used for straight applications. Made of white PVC with an internal metal spine, it can be installed on a ceiling or wall. It can be bent by hand without compromising strength and is perfect for use on bay windows.
IT’S THE BEST FOR A REASON
The 6100 Flexible Curtain Track is our most popular track for good reason. Not only is it inexpensive, but because it can be bent by hand, it allows you to have complete control of the track location as well as manage the angles. That means that no matter the size or style of your beautiful bay window, this track is the best choice when it comes to hanging curtains.
Curtain-Tracks customer, Carrol M., recently emailed us photos of her project using our polyester glide tape. Her and her husband have a 2001 Monaco Knight motor home and they wanted to replace their windshield curtains as the old ones had stiff vinyl glide tape and were difficult to reuse. Carroll put on her creative hat and went to a local store and purchased some curtains. She turned them sideways and they fit the windshield! We love it when our customers are creative!
We love it when our customers are creative! Carrol discovered 63" x 42" curtain panels worked perfectly for her motor home project so she purchased four of them. She then purchased 7 yards of glide tape from Curtain-Tracks. Our 2097 Sew In Glide Tape must be sewn to the curtains and is sold by the yard. Her handy husband sewed it on using their sewing machine. Carrol said, "We skipped the pleats. Who needs pleats? Your site is the only place I could find the polyester glide tape except the manufacturer. Thank you so much!"
Thanks, Carrol, for sharing your project with us. We are so happy we were able to help!
JUST CRUISING AROUND
We’ve often written about using curtain tracks in personal boats but for this blog post, we want to talk about big boats. When we say big, we mean cruise ships! Cruise ships use curtain tracks in a wide variety of places. In fact, we noticed curtain tracks used not only in the main guest cabins, but also in the restaurant, fitness locker rooms, entertainment stage, and spa. That’s a lot of curtain tracks!
A LITTLE PRIVACY
When it comes to the guest cabins, Curtain-Tracks curtains and accessories are used to cover the window, in the shower, and to separate the sleeping area from the living space. This is particularly helpful when a family has young children who may go to bed early and the parents prefer to stay up watching some TV after the kids are in bed. But the most used curtain track in these rooms is most likely the one over the main window. These windows are often large round windows so guests can gaze out at the water while traveling. The 88001 Privacy Cubicle Track could be used for a project like this. It is an aluminum track with silver satin finish and is available in 6 foot, 8 foot, 12 foot and 16 foot sections. If a longer track is needed, sections of track can be spliced together for longer applications. Another option is our popular 6100 Flexible Curtain Track.
GETTING SOME EXTRA ZZZZZZs…
When you are cruising, you are usually on vacation. When you are on vacation, you may want to catch up on some extra sleep. But if you happen to be cruising in Alaska in the summer where the days are long and the sun doesn’t set until late in the evening, curtains are very much welcomed. For this reason, oure Eclipse curtains are perfect to help block out the light!
We’ve said it before and we will say it again, there are so many uses for curtain tracks and Curtain-Tracks.com has the best selection around. Let us know if we can help you with your next project!
