We recently received some great images of an outdoor curtain installation in Oakland, TN from one of our customers and wanted to share them.  Jerry C.  fabricated his own outdoor curtains from a Sunbrella outdoor fabric.   This outdoor fabric will hold up well in the elements, and provides shade while still offering some transparency through the curtains based upon the weave of the fabric.  The intent was to provide shade for the covered patio behind their home, and we really like the look of this finished do-it-yourself (DIY) project.

What are Curtain Carriers?

Curtain Carriers are often referred to by a wide range of terms including curtain glide, curtain glider, curtain slide, curtain slider, curtain trolly, and even a do-hickey or thing-a-ma-jig. We've had customers even call not knowing what to call them other than the things the roll or slide back and forth on the curtain track or curtain rail. Regardless of what the curtain carriers are called, they typically fall into one of three categories: wheeled curtain carriers, friction curtain carriers, or master carriers. We will provide a bit of insight into the purpose and pros and cons of each.

IN THE SOUTH

A Curtain-Tracks friend recently visited the west coast of Florida. On their visit, they noticed a beautiful home that had three levels of porches. Unfortunately, these porches all faced west which meant they received the brunt of the hot afternoon sun. Luckily the home owners were creative and added curtain tracks and curtains that are not only functional but look great, too!

We have had the opportunity to work with customers all across the country on creating outdoor spaces. We suggest a few different tracks for outdoor use including the 6100 Medium Weight, 6100-Heavy Weight, 3120, 84004 and 84003 curtain tracks. If you are looking for a track that will support heavy curtains hung from high ceilings, we suggest the 16 Gauge Galvanized Steel track.

Once you have installed your tracks, you can add our steel hooks. These hooks are sturdy and easily attach to any carrier with a ring to allow for curtains with holes or grommets.

For those who are fortunate to live in southern states during these cold winter months, you may be spending some time outdoors. If this is the case, why not create some privacy like C-T customer Jennifer W. did when she added curtain tracks to her lanai?

KEEP THE PEACE

Jennifer has a pool with a great lanai surrounding it. To create some privacy, she wanted to add curtains that could be left open or pulled closed for privacy. She decided to use the 42124 Ceiling Mount Curtain Track mounted to the frame of her lanai along with snap tape and snap carriers. This aluminum curtain track is available in silver or black and can be mounted end to end for longer lengths. The 42124 track is compatible with 3 different carriers: 7120 Single Snap Carrier (used with 3090 snap tape), 7122 Button Carrier w/ Stainless Hook, and 7124 Button Carrier and the 7127 end stop.

PROTECTED

To complete the look, she used weather-proof material for her curtains. The beauty of adding curtains and curtain tracks to an outdoor space like this is it doesn’t just create visual privacy from the neighbors, but it can also help contain sound. For example, if you have kids who love to play and yell in the pool, curtains can help keep the sound from traveling to the neighbors. Nearly every year, it seems Puxatawney Phil predicts winter will last a little longer, but the calendar officially tells us that spring is here. And if your house is anything like ours, that means the honey-do list has grown to include lots of outdoor projects. TIME TO RELAX

Have you ever enjoyed a vacation at a resort or a hotel where they had beautiful cabanas by the pool or beach that you could rent for the day? Oftentimes, these cabanas are equipped with furnishings such as comfortable chaise lounges, a refrigerator, ceiling fan, and sometimes even a TV. Another feature that makes these cabanas so luxurious are the privacy curtains. A wait staff comes by to take your drink orders as you relax by the pool in your private space. Ahhhh, sounds amazing, doesn't it?

SIESTA TIME!

On a recent visit to Marco Island, Florida, we noticed a resort used ceiling curtain tracks like the 42124 curtain track, curtains in an aqua color, and a wand so the curtains would easily glide along the track. Guests could close the curtains for privacy or if they wanted to take a siesta. Don't get us wrong, we love the extra comfy cushions on the lounges in these cabanas. They are quite appealing. But the curtain tracks and curtains and being able to create that element of privacy and seclusion, makes the cabana rental daily rates a little bit more bearable.

So, if there is a pool party with lots of kids having a great time, the squeals of laughter will be somewhat contained and the next-door neighbors can’t peer in to see who is at the party. This family already had a beautifully built pergola but they decided to enhance the look by adding a few different products from Curtain-Tracks, including the 3120 Heavy Duty Curtain Track in Silver, 7127 Stainless Steel End Stops, 7140 Large Double Wheel Carrier and 7142 Stainless Steel Curtain Hooks.

QUALITY PRODUCTS

The pergola was already white so they simply painted their 3120 Heavy Duty Curtain Track white to match. This track is made of anodized aluminum and has thicker top wall for added support. Perfect when using on tall ceilings or pergola! This is a 12 foot track but is cut to 8 feet and 4 feet, or two 6 foot sections for shipping. They also used the 7127 End Stops. End Stops are used to close the ends of the tracks so the carriers don't slip off. They also have another use: you can use two end stops to hold a curtain carrier in place by pinning the carrier between the end stops. Doing this will keep a curtain closed at one end. Genius!

TIME TO RELAX

Once the track was installed, this customer added blue and white striped curtains that can be pulled closed for privacy but can also protect against the elements, like wind and afternoon sun. The curtains look fantastic with the landscaping and create a finished look to the patio. This patio looks so inviting, we just want to sidle up to that bar!
