Tips For Choosing The Right Curtain Tracks For The Job

ALL TRACKS ALL THE TIME

We have lots of curtain tracks, and if you give us a call we will happily talk your ear off about them. The fact is, we have the largest selection of tracks you will find on the internet, and they are very high quality. If you properly install the right track for the project it will last a generation or more. (One of our tracks even survived outdoors during a hurricane!) However, our abundant selection can make choosing the right curtain tracks and accessories a challenge. Choosing the wrong track or drapery hardware for your needs can result in less than ideal function of your track and curtain and, in the words of our customer service rep, Brenda, you will be “fighting with your track” to open and close the curtains. This leads to wear and tear on the track, the carriers, and your curtain. But don’t despair! We are here to help you.

SET THE WHEELS IN MOTION

Sometimes, when choosing the right track, you actually have to choose the right carrier. For curtains that will be hung well above head height (i.e. most residential and commercial curtains), you must have a wheeled carrier (such as this one). Why? Given that you will be pulling on the curtains from significantly below the track to open and close them, the carrier must move freely and easily, and while our button and snap carriers are great for other uses, they don’t move freely enough for this application.

THE BIGGER THEY COME, THE EASIER THEY ROLL

In general, the higher the curtain track, the bigger the wheel you need in your carrier. So if you are hanging heavy curtains from two-story, or vaulted ceilings, you will need tracks that accommodate our largest wheeled carriers, such as the 6200 Heavy Duty I-Beam Track, or the 3120 Extra Heavy Duty Track. The 3120 track keeps a lower profile than the 6200 track because it can be drilled directly into the ceiling, and the carriers go inside the track, rather than roll along the outside. Choosing between the two is, therefore, a matter of style and preference.

We’ve got many more tips about choosing the right curtain track that we will give in future blogs, but if you don’t want to wait, call our knowledgeable staff at 888-434-7444.
